ABAKIR has adopted a five year strategic action plan (2022 – 2027) that details ABAKIR’s vision for governance in the Lake Kivu and Rusizi / Ruzizi River Basin. It was developed through an in-depth consultative process involving over 150 people from the three ABAKIR Member States, representing represented local authorities, civil society groups and nongovernmental organisations, regional organisations at basin level, academic and research institutions, national ministries and their technical departments, international development actors and financing agencies.
The Action plan establishes clear strategic priorities to resolve the key transboundary challenges, and contains actions that are planned to address them.
